Admit it, we all want to hear: “Wow, your skin looks amazing!” not, “Your foundation is so great!” Finding the perfect foundation is the first battle, and now that you found your perfect match, it’s crucial to know how to apply your custom blend foundation to achieve that beautiful, flawless second-skin finish.
In this video, I share a few tips that will help you a long lasting, even finish. I share how to apply both custom liquid and custom powder foundations. I even share some helpful tools and products that you may want to add to your makeup routine. I also break it down below with some helpful past blog posts.
Prep Is Important
Before I dig into foundation application, it is crucial to take the time to properly prep your skin. Taking time to prep your skin with the right products will payoff and really determine how your makeup will last throughout the day. Many don’t know the importance of starting with the right skincare regimen and adding just a couple extra steps to their routine and the difference that it will make! I know that it can be confusing to choose the right products, which primer and setting spray you should be using to get not only the most out of your makeup looks but the best bang for your buck. How to Apply Custom Liquid Foundation
If you are a lover of liquid foundation you have probably wondered; what is the best way to apply your foundation? Should you use your fingers, sponge or a brush? Which is best to get that flawless finish?
Look, I’m not here to tell you that you HAVE to use one over the other, but what I will tell you is that there are pros and cons to each one.
I use the Motives Foundation Brush. This specialty brush features a high-end blend of synthetic fibers and goat hair that won’t swell with age and ensure foundation blends without streaking. It can be used with both liquid and cream foundation formulas. It applies just the right amount of foundation smoothly and evenly for a flawless foundation application.

How to Apply Custom Powder Foundation
With the countless powder brush options out there, how do you know which is best for you? You’ve probably noticed by now that the Custom Powder Foundation is a loose powder, which can get messy if you don’t know how to apply it the right way.
In my video I talked about how the brush you choose will determine the coverage of your powder. Decide if you’d like to just dust your custom powder on lightly for more of a sheer, setting powder, or use the Motives Flat Top Powder Brush like me. The flat head lets you press pigments onto the skin and create a smooth surface for a perfectly even, ultra-luminous finish. This brush is perfect for applying powder or liquid foundations to create full coverage results that look natural.
