We use makeup every day to enhance our natural features, but I think sometimes we forget how we can use it to create illusions. If you have been around me for some time, you know that I am all for the everyday makeup looks. I still see overuse of products that are continually layered on top of one another. But when you really understand the power of makeup, and how you can make slight adjustments to give you completely different looks.
2 Different Eye Looks Using The Same Eye Shadow
I recently created a video featuring 2 totally different eye looks. The power of seeing these side by side is what is eye opening, see what I did there, no pun intended, lol! Truth be told, I could’ve made this even more visually different, but I wanted to show realistic everyday looks that you could try yourself. I guess real life looks if you will. So I kept things simple, and achievable. Even though I still surprised my husband when he got home 😉

One of the first things we learn in makeup artistry, is that your face is not symmetrical. It’s true that some people are closer than others, but in reality we are not perfect! If we would take one side of our face and lay it over the other, we would be able to see it much better. One eye is usually higher than the other, one corner of your mouth is slightly higher than the other, and your nose may veer off to one side. As makeup artists, we use makeup to give the illusion that our faces are symmetrical. Think of it this way: We use darker shades to push light back and use lighter shades to push light out. We can also use this to give the illusion that your eyes are bigger, smaller, more open, lifted, etc.
For The Power Of Makeup: Eye Edition, I used the same 3 eye shadows for both looks. I just applied them different. Check out this video walking you through each step. Don’t worry, I sped it up to about a minute long, because I know your attention spans are pretty short 😉
