Top 10 Makeup Trends For Fall 2021
As much as I love summer, I’m always excited to see the new makeup trends for fall & winter. It has always been something fun to look forward to. I have been scouring the internet and gathering the top makeup trends that I am seeing for fall 2021 along with ways that you can achieve these trendy looks.
1. Kitten Eyeliner
A big trend that I am seeing is the “kitten eye”. It’s nothing new and is essentially a smaller and more subtle version of the cat-eye, and a lot easier to do. Instead of a strong, defined line over the entire eyelid that extends into a sweeping wing, kitten eyeliner is a very thin, short line across the top lash line with a super-subtle flick at the outer corner.
I think that the kitten eye has gained recent popularity because you don’t feel like you have to apply a full face of makeup as you do with bold eyeliner. Kitten eyeliner will look great on its own, or with just a little mascara.
To achieve this look, use a felt tip eyeliner, such as the Motives Precisely The Point Eye Line, and start at the outer corner, point the tip toward your ear. Then press it down just outside the corner of your eye and drag along your top lid along your lashline toward the center. Once you reach the middle, pick up the tool and do the same thing, this time dragging from the inside of your eye, near the tear duct, and connecting in the center. Since you’re working in sections, there’s less room for error.
2. Breathable Skin
I think that with mask-wearing, everyone got used to wearing a little less foundation. I have also seen a trend where everyone is ditching the filters and real skin is in!!
As things start to open up, I am seeing clients that want multi-purpose products that conceal, contour and give a little life back into the skin while allowing your skin to breathe.
For breathable skin, check out the Flawless Face Shade Quiz and find the perfect foundation sticks for your skin tone. Top with one of the many multi-purpose Lumiere de Vie Lumi-Sticks. These versatile sticks can be used on the cheeks, eyes, lips and more!
3. Jewel Toned Eye Shadow
Fall is the perfect time to add jewel tones like emerald and sapphire. You can add pops of color on your mobile lid, or create a sultry smokey look.
I have the perfect palette for you! Social life is coming back, and it’s infused with festive optimism — after all, it’s the holiday season! Even if we need to keep the celebrations to a tight-knit group, we still need to bring on the glam. What better way to do that than with the Motives® Sublime Eye Shadow Palette? This gorgeous palette features a neutral matte taupe, a shimmering champagne, a gold-glittered smokey brown and an elegant pearlescent emerald. Give the night something to obsess over with your sublime new look.
4. Autumn Lips
Lipstick is back, and everyone is grabbing the beautiful autumn shades whether they are bold or neutral.
A long-wear formula will stay put with or without a mask and a quick way to glam up your look.
Motives LALA is launching 3 new shades of Liquid Lipstick just in time for the fall season. Unleash the beauty of this long-lasting, cushiony formula that is infused with nourishing ingredients that will not only keep lips lavished in “go get ’em” color, but also keep lips soft and hydrated. Kiss-proof, this long-wearing, no-budge color will lay down lightly on lips, setting to a velvety soft matte finish for the most comfortable wear.
The best part is, you can try them before you buy with the “Try Me” feature on the website. Try each one on and pick your favorite, or just order all 3!!
5. Reverse Cat-Eye
The reverse cat-eye is exactly how it sounds. Instead of applying your eyeliner to your top lash line, you smudge it along your bottom lash line while creating a smokey reverse wing.
To get this look:
- Begin by washing the entire lid and crease with “Grit” from the Motives Super Power Mattes Palette
- Line the water line using “Motives Black Khol Eyeliner”
- With a small detail brush begin by outlining the shape of the reverse liner to be created.
- Using “Bold” shadow (Super Power Mattes) blend underneath the lower lash line
- Define and sharpen the liner using “Motives Precisely The Point Eye Liner“
6. Glowy, Dewy Skin
This fall expect to see glowy, dewy skin, not only on the face, but also on the eyes and lips
Get the look: Take a dip in this incredibly Motives Sublime, Luminizing Jelly. Completely versatile and easily transitional, this jelly-like gloss will take your look to next-level glow. This multitasking highlighter is designed to be worn over makeup to add a glossy look to eyes, cheekbones, lips, collarbones, EVERYWHERE! It’s our best-kept secret, and we are obsessed..
7. Natural Feathery Brows
Perhaps a pandemic has left your brows a little overgrown? You’re in luck! The natural brow trend has overtaken the overly drawn Instagram brow and we’re more than ready to embrace a relaxed, natural approach to brow grooming.
With that being said, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have to do anything. Here’s how to get natural feathery brows.
Determine if your brows start and end in the correct place by doing simple brow mapping. If you need some guidance, check out my Brow Guide. Using a fine-tipped brow pencil, fill in your brows creating hair-like strokes in the direction of your hair growth.
Brush through using a spoolie. If you need help keeping your brows in place, you can use a little brow wax or pomade.
8. Matte Neutral Eye
Nothing says fall like an eye shadow palette full of neutrals. You can still get jazzed up with all matte eye shadow and look great for any occasion.
For this look, you will need the Motives Super Powder Mattes Eye Shadow Palette.
- Begin by blending “Takeover” shadow and blend slightly above the crease
- Using “Level Up” shadow blend into the crease
- Taking “Feisty” on a small brush apply to the outer corner of the lid and sweep onto the lash line stopping about half way
- Apply “feisty” onto the lower half of the lash line connecting both the top and bottom color in the outer corner of the eye
- On a flat brush pat “Fly” onto the first half of the lid and inner corner of the eye
9. Luscious Lashes
Long, luscious lashes became a focus with mask-wearing and they aren’t going anywhere!
Choose a mascara that will increase the fullness and length of your natural lashes. My favorite is Fiber Lush Mascara. It is formulated with fibers that adhere to your lashes making them look longer, fuller, and drop-dead luscious. This one-step formula has been perfectly paired with a brush designed for a flawless application that resists smudging, clumping, and flaking all day.
If you need a little help growing your lashes, you can try Motives Lash Extend. Motives® Lash Extend serum is not mascara or makeup. It is a serum that can help increase the look of volume in your lashes. This advanced formula contains a proprietary blend of SymPeptides™ that help enhance the look, volume, and beauty of lashes and brows. Motives® Lash Extend nourishes and fortifies each strand for healthier, thicker-looking lashes and brows.
10. Graphic Eyeliner
In January, I wrote about the biggest trends for this year, and graphic liner was one of them and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. It’s a great way to try something a little different than normal.
To achieve this look, you will need the Motives Super Power Mattes Eye Shadow Palette.
- Using a fluffy brush and the color “Level Up” blend into the crease and slightly above
- Taking a liner brush and the color “Feisty” make a liquid liner by mixing some of the shadow with a drop of water. Apply your winged liner
- Extend that wing by connecting the end of the wing and bringing that line into the crease, Stop about half way
- Blend “Level Up” onto the lower lash line
Which trend are you most excited about? If you try any of these looks, make sure to share them with me!
